Fitness & Wellness

< Back

After the Lunar New Year celebrations, chances are most of us would have indulged in far too many sinful yet mouth-watering festive dishes and traditional goodies. While it seems like a good idea at that point to give ourselves a break, it’s time we get our health back on track! Here are 3 ways to kickstart our post-CNY fitness plans:

 Set a goal

Before beginning the process of getting back in shape, it helps to have an understanding of your own body and what you hope to achieve. When you put goals in place, it not only serves as a form of motivation but the tangible progress of your efforts to pursue your goals will encourage you to push forward. Setting small and actionable goals help you to stay motivated and accomplished, such as opting for a healthier choice during lunch or having a jog twice a week.

As a suggestion for your first step in goal setting, you can check out the mall directory in By The Bay for a  variety of healthy food choices at Marina Bay Link Mall  such as Salad Stop! (#B2-77/78), HeyBo (#B2-41/42) and more!

 Plan time for exercise

Our daily schedule can be a flurry of activities from work to family time and running errands. It’s easy to excuse ourselves for not being able to exercise for the lack of time. However to ensure we’re committed to staying healthy, try to be flexible with your time to exercise and gradually make fitness a way of life. Having a workout buddy to keep you in check is also a way to ensure you never drop out!

Many of us have preset connotations of how exercise should be, but even taking a short 15 minutes walk is good exercise. If you are new to working out and cannot decide on what kind of exercises are for you, opt for some cardio exercising routine that will greatly help with strengthening your heart, improving lung capacity and immune system.

We have catered a line up of heart pumping/high impact fitness activities in the upcoming months

  • In partnership with our tenant – Fitness First we are organising weekly Grit Cardio sessions in March, and Kickbox Fusion in April held at ORQ Travellator every Tuesday evening, exclusively for MBFC and ORQ tenants.
  • Or if you are interested in HIIT classes, By The Bay is a part of the Marina Bay Alliance who has tailored a series of weekly HIIT Tabata and HIIT Amrap classes at The Open Plaza at ORQ in March every Wednesday evening.

Stay hydrated

All the CNY visitations may have led us to consume various types of sugar-sweetened beverages resulting in an increase in our calorie intake and weight gain. Now that the festive season has come to a close, it is important to watch what we drink.

The average Singaporean consumes an estimate of four teaspoons of sugar a day from pre-packaged drinks, according to HPB’s National Nutrition Survey in 2018. The over-consumption of sugar can lead to obesity and increase health risks such as diabetes and high blood pressure, so make a conscious choice to go for lower or no sugar pre-packaged drinks. You can find these alternatives that are endorsed with Healthier Choice Symbol (HCS) logo at Jasons Deli (#B2-44).

It’s not too difficult to turn fitness into a lifestyle that we enjoy and love. Check out our By the Bay app to discover the myriad of healthy food options and fitness classes that you can attend after work!
