Businesses and properties alike are becoming increasingly green-minded by adopting sustainable practices and policies, but the shift into sustainable activities is far more than just a public relations trend. In fact, investing in greener practices grants an organization a boost in consumer trust, reductions in cost and energy consumption, and naturally, it contributes to a healthy environment for everyone to live in.

Eco-friendly buildings and activities also serve as value-adding aspects to a corporation’s portfolio, especially with green building certifications such as the Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) Green Mark Award. These additions to a property’s list of credentials reflect on the environmental responsibility of its management, letting consumers and stakeholders make informed decisions about which organization to support.

For one, Raffles Quay Asset Management’s (RQAM) properties — Marina Bay Link Mall, Marina Bay Financial Centre and One Raffles Quay — have been consistently certified with the BCA Green Mark and Water Efficiency Building Awards over the years, among several other sustainability and public health accolades, serving as testaments to the organization’s dedication to being environmentally and socially responsible while providing spaces for businesses to thrive.

THE #BAYGREEN JOURNEY THUS FAR

Plastic-Lite Singapore Virtual Brown Bag Sessions

The holiday season isn’t the only thing around the corner; this December, RQAM is rolling out exciting events that are both educational and enjoyable. For starters, office tenants can look forward to a series of virtual brown bag sessions from Plastic-Lite, a volunteer organization that raises awareness about our community’s over-dependence on single-use plastics. The following sessions will address important topics that barely cross our minds:

  1. Waste Management System in Singapore: Towards a Plastic-Lite Future
  2. Plastic pollution: What are we eating and breathing?
  3. Single use plastic: Understanding Plastics and Recycling

While the first session has concluded, tenants can stay tuned to the By The Bay app for information on how to secure their spots for the second and third parts of this series. Learn about the causes of high plastic consumption, understand the waste disposal process and its impacts on the environment. You’ll also pick up some tips on how to take action as an individual, a small difference goes a long way!

By The Bay x Active SG Shoe Collection

Recently in November, RQAM has partnered with ActiveSG to organise a shoe collection drive across Marina Bay Link Mall, Marina Bay Financial Centre and One Raffles Quay in a bid to reduce landfill mass and material wastage. The collected sports shoes would be recycled into construction materials for environmentally-friendly sports infrastructures. After all, we wouldn’t want perfectly reusable shoes to be leaving a carbon footprint behind instead.

Green Technologies

RQAM also recognizes the importance of making eco-living more accessible to the public by integrating green facilities into its sustainably designed properties. Both Marina Bay Financial Centre and One Raffles Quay feature unique integrations of eco-friendliness into everyday life, such as an Eco-Waste Digester which converts food waste into high quality compost, which can then be reused in planted areas around the vicinity.

If you are a tenant in MBFC/ORQ and would like to find out more about purchasing this Eco-Waste Digester for your office, feel free to contact us management@rqam.com.sg

Looking Ahead

As of now, sustainable living and business practices are becoming increasingly indispensable. With climate change upon us, it’s high time that we adopt a sustainable, forward-looking approach to our businesses and lifestyle in order to continue thriving as a society. As part of recovery from the wake of Covid-19, the Singaporean government is even looking to revamp many key industries such as construction and aerospace and reduce carbon emissions, while promoting more green buildings and infrastructure that function alongside our environment, not against it.

The transition into eco-friendly alternatives of operating buildings and businesses may pose a challenge to some, but championing a dedicated and positive commitment to our environment is the gateway to shaping a promising, forward-looking future for the next generation, and one that all of us will be proud of.
