Have you found yourself using more plastic than usual in the past year of the pandemic? According to an article by Today, take-out meals and home-delivered groceries contributed an additional 1334 tons of plastic waste during our country’s 8-week lockdown in mid-2020.
Based on a statistic by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, our landfills and natural environment will be filled with 12 billion tonnes of plastic waste – the equivalent of 60,000 Olympic-size swimming pools – in less than 30 years from now should we not take immediate action on our plastic use habits.
In light of Plastic Free July, By The Bay (BTB) is launching a challenge for the community: commit to going plastic-free and pen down your experience.
Go Plastic Free with BTB can be carried out in both an individual or collective effort – embark on this sustainability journey solo or gather your colleagues and make a team activity. Here’s how to join this effort in fostering an eco-friendly environment with BTB.
For some inspiration, read a diary entry penned by the Environment, Health & Safety Manager of Raffles Quay Asset Management on his plastic-free stint!
BTB has pledged to give an Eco Starter Kit to all genuine participants to support and encourage making plastic-free lifestyle a sustainable and long-term one.
This challenge is open till the end of the month – BTB is accepting submissions till 31 July, 11:59 pm via email. All members of the tenant community at BTB are welcome to participate. Your piece may be published on the BTB platforms.
